A Moderate's Take on Obama's Plans

Though I disagree with much of what Obama stands for, I believe in reform, I believe in being hopeful about the future, and I believe in being supportive of what I can see will be beneficial for our country, regardless of party.

It's always refreshing to hear non-partisan, thoughtful people comment on the president. I've found much about what he's done so far that's frustrated me endlessly, but I don't read the news hoping he will fail.

I thought it appropriate, therefore, to share the following article, by David Brooks. See if you agree with what he has to say, also: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/24/opinion/24brooks.html

The most sobering part of the article, for me: "These [Obama] aides are unrolling a rapid string of plans: to create three million jobs, to redesign the health care system, to save the auto industry, to revive the housing industry, to reinvent the energy sector, to revitalize the banks, to reform the schools — and to do it all while cutting the deficit in half.

Yet... I fear that in trying to do everything at once, they will do nothing well. I fear that we have a group of people who haven’t even learned to use their new phone system trying to redesign half the U.S. economy."

As good as Obama makes his actions sound, I believe we should keep in mind the feasibility of his policies. I also believe if something sounds too good to be true (i.e. increase government spending, while simultaneously cutting the federal budget), it usually is.
